MOBA (Museum of Bad Art)

I hope to have the west coast version of this museum.
A curator has to have great eye to capture the essence of bad art.
You'll find great pieces here. I'm starting my collection now.

Clip art on signage. Really?

Sometimes no art is better than slapping some clip art onto a sign.
It almost seems like they altered the chef's eyes to look asian and
that better be a croissant on the right side next to the coffee instead of dog poo.

Peace Press Graphics 1967 - 1987: Art in the Pursuit of Social Change
September 10 - December 11, 2011

I invite you to see this important show no matter what your political persuasion.
It is an engaging historical reference to politics, collectivism, graphic artists, pre-computer graphics,
printing techniques, publishing, sex, drugs and rock 'n roll (the last three are my addition, it just seemed to fit). The following eight posters are part of the 49 that will be in the show from part of my collection.
I was part of the collective the last 10 years of it's existence.

One of my favorites on a graphic level. Conveys a lot to me with a "simple" image.
The vertical format helps as well.

Rare Angela Davis poster from the late seventies.
I guess they are all rare since they are over 30 years old and meant to be on telephone polls
and were printed in limited quantities.

One of my highly prized rock 'n roll posters.
On silver foil paper which meant they were produced for the promotors only.
Usually 10 were made and framed. The regular posters were only about 1000 run,
500 for smaller shows.

Any locals remember The Fox Venice Theater?
These posters were generally 8.5" wide by 22" high.

Really nice hand done graphics before the advent of desktop publishing.

Old Boingo poster from when their original name was
The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.

Some of the posters have the most incredible second acts.
Do you think these two acts were suitable together?
Some of the posters in the collection, the second and third acts became bigger than their headliners.

Christian Marclay's The Clock at LACMA

If you have a chance to see all or part of this screening please do so.
A fantastic piece that mesmerized me for one hour, only left because of other commitments.
Warning: It will captivate you.

CGX Emerge 2010 - Keynote Speakers

I just thought that these speakers had the edge of what printing and printers should embrace.
I could not find the 2011 videos. If you know where to get them please let me know.

MoMA | David Smith’s Don Quixote

One must read the story behind the making of this lithograph from the above link. I think beer and art go well together, don't you?
Thanks Sarajo Frieden for posting this on Facebook.
